German-Polish bass-baritone Ryszard Kalus was born in Königshütte of Poland. From 1999 to 2004 he studied singing and acting at the Music Academy in Katowice, from where he graduated with distinction.

He was also lucky to attend masterclasses by such renowned artists like Ingrid Kremling-Domański, Ileana Cotrubas, Kurt Streit, Jolanta Żmurko-Kurzak, Grace Bumbry, Ann Murray, Elisabeth Connell, Falk Struckmann, Emily Rawlins Struckmann, Jeanne Piland and Dieter Schweikard.

Ryszard Kalus is the prize winner of several national and international competitions: 2004 1st prize and 11 special prizes at the Internationelen Didur Opera competition in Bytom(PL), 2003 - Cesare Bardelli Prize at the G.B. Viotti competition in Vercelli (Italy), 2003 - Award (4th prize) at the International Ada Sari Singing Competition of the Vocal Art in Nowy Sacz (PL), 2003 - March 2nd prize at the National Singing Competition in Wrocław, 2002 2nd prize at the XVII Intrnational Singing Contest in Trnava (SLO), 2001 - November - two second prizes (opera and song) at XXXVI International Singing competition Antonin Dvorak in Karlovy Vary (CZ), 1998 - May - 1st prize at the Voivodeship Young Musicians Competition in Katowice

While still a student he took part in full opera productions, where sang roles like Figaro in „Le Nozze di Figaro" and Papageno in "Die Zauberflöte".

From 2005 to 2007 he was a member of the International Opera Studios at the Hamburg State Opera. Afterwards he was a member of the Hamburg Chamber Opera for two years as Leporello in "Don Giovanni", Kaspar in "The Freischütz" and Dulcamara in "L'elisir d'amore" on the stage.

Ryszard Kalus is also active as a concert singer. His extensive repertoire includes, a. The bass parts of Handel's "Messiah", Mozart's "Coronation Fair", Brahms' "A German Requiem", Rossini's "Petite Messe Solenelle" and Puccini's "Messa di Gloria".

Since the season 2011/2012 he has been firmly committed to the Landestheater Neustrelitz where he has sang a number of important roles including Don Basilio, Kezal, Sparafucile, Don Magnifico, Raimondo, Falstaff, Attila and Sarastro.

Ο γερμανοπολωνός μπάσος-βαρύτονος Ryszard Kalus γεννήθηκε στο Königshütte της Πολωνίας. Απο το 1999 εως το 2004 σπούδασε υποκριτική και μονωδία στη Μουσική Ακαδημία του Katowice από όπου αποφοίτησε με τιμητική διάκριση.

Ήδη κατά την διάρκεια των σπουδών του είχε πραγματοποιήσει εμφανίσεις ως Figaro στο Ο Γάμος του Φίγκαρο και ως Papageno στο Μαγικό Αυλό.

Από το 2005 έως το 2007 ήταν μέλος του International Opera Studio στην Κρατική Όπερα του Αμβούργου. Εν συνέχεια απέκτησε ενα διετές συμβόλαιο στην Kammeroper του Αμβούργου όπου εμφανίστηκε ως Leporello στο Don Giovanni, ως Kaspar στο Der Freischütz / Ο Ελεύθερος Σκοπευτης και ως Dulcamara στο L'elisir d'amore / Το Φίλτρο του Έρωτα.
